I received a B.A. in History from Oberlin College and a Ph.D. in American and Women’s History from Rutgers University. My consulting clients include graphic novelists, New York City organizations, composers, and video game designers.
I have published articles in journals and edited volumes, and my book“Make It Yourself”: Home Sewing, Gender, and Culture, 1890-1930 (Columbia University Press, 2007) is available as a full-text e-book at www.gutenberg-e.org/gordon.
My teaching experience includes courses at Rutgers University, the State University of New York at Purchase, and Empire State College. I also have experience in the museum world, having led tours at the Merchant's House Museum, analyzed photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, and helped mount costume exhibits at the Museum of the City of New York.
